Nashville TN musician Russ Hicks was inducted into the Steel Guitar Hall of Fame at the International Steel Guitar convention for 2011-2012. Scotty (DeWitt Scott), founder and host of the convention, made the presentation which included a large screen video, The video featured many of Nashville's best, making their comments and tribute to Russ. It was kept on its course with background and comments by Eddie Stubbs, WSM Radio personality and announcer on the Grand Ol Opry. Personalities appearing on screen and making their tribute to Russ were Connie Smith, Ronnie Milsap, Larry Gatlin, Charlie McCoy, and many others
When Russ was asked to speak at the Hall or Fame ceremony, he gave the credit where it is due, to our creator God, and he further stated he was honored and happy to be inducted into the Steel Guitar Hall of Fame but was more please to be in the Heavenly Hall of Fame (as in the book of life). Russ Hicks has always been willing to speak for family values and his positive convictions. Not surprisingly, his whole family was there to join him on-stage for this occasion.
The Russ Hicks background in country music, includes being the steel guitar player on the popular Hee Haw television show and also being a part of the Barefoot Jerry Band from that same era. Since then he has been part of many shows and recordings, and one of the most frequently booked performers on steel guitar shows around the U.S.A. If you attend one of these shows, you will hear the best of the steel guitar players and probably have a chance to meet and talk to Russ Hicks. He is outgoing and available, and usually has a booth at the shows that encourage the use of booths for the artist to meet and greet.
In addition to his very busy performance schedule, Russ is also a 1/3 partner in the new Russler steel guitar company. He has had many ideas and the new 2012 Russler Rangler is his creation. He is one of the main reasons it plays and sounds the way it does. Be sure to hear and see their new products.
