Don is definitely an Icon in the steel guitar world! When I first began to play the steel guitar back in the 1940's Don was one of my inspirations. He came up with a new style that complimented Hank Williams and is still playing that same style, and on the same guitar, today.

When he performs at the International Steel Guitar Convention held in St. Louis, Missouri each year the audience is always anxious to hear Don perform. He always gets a standing ovation. I agree that Don is one of our most famous steel guitar players (and at one point in time he was the most imitated steel guitarist in the world) and I will be the first to also agree that both Don and his wife Hazel are two of the most humble and honest people I have ever met.
